BEST PRACTICE: Legal Requirements for Acknowledging Donations
Did you know that there are different rules for acknowledging donations depending on the amount? Generally, your donation receipts should include the name of your organization; your tax ID number; the amount of the donation; and whether any goods or services were received in return.
For more information about legal requirements for donation acknowledgements, check out the Council of Nonprofits’ article “Saying ‘thank you’ to donors”, which contains tips for writing effective acknowledgements as well as links to relevant information at the IRS.
In Doubleknot, you can include this information on the receipt. When you create or edit a Fund Raiser event, enter the information in the Receipt Confirmation Message field. If you need additional help, contact us at doubleknot@doubleknot.com.
