New B.S.A. Pilot Cub Scout Lions 5 Yr. Old Kindergarten Program
As you may have heard, the National B.S.A. has recently introduced an optional pilot Cub Scout program to local B.S.A. councils for 5 year old Kindergarten boys beginning in the fall of 2016. The SWFL Executive Board has chosen not to implement this program at this time or in the near future until further review of information in development and program results can be evaluated. The pilot program underway will enable the National B.S.A to further assess the value and effectiveness in determining if this program is sustainable and replicable across the nation. Also at this time, sufficient data is not available from the original Beta test councils to make a determination of program effectiveness. If data in the future validates the effectiveness of this program, the SWFL Executive Board will then determine an implementation plan and rollout timeline. This process would have to be on a timeline that will best meet the preparation and planning needs of individual Cub Scout packs, district/council training teams as well as plan for potential changes that would be needed in district/council programs and camp facility considerations.
We think our due diligence is in the best interest of all our Scouting constituents to insure our decision will result in delivering quality programs to our youth and volunteers for the long term.
